A Natural Approach to Back Pain

Kettering chiropractic back pain treatmentChiropractic is based on the principle of aiding your body to heal naturally through spinal adjustments and lifestyle changes that promote overall health. For Dr. Poelking, this means working hard to reestablish your body's normal performance to avoid the need for medications or surgery. We find that most of our Kettering patients are happy to find a natural solution for their health conditions.

One benefit of chiropractic is that it helps people decrease or eliminate the use of drugs. Prescription medications are commonly issued to individuals who have back pain. This is such a serious crisis that the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) issued a press release stating that opioid (painkiller) risks outweigh the benefits when prescribed for back pain.

Some of the most popular opiates, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, include hydrocodone (Vicodin), oxycodone (OxyContin and Percocet), morphine, and codeine. Figures presented by the AAN cite the fact that about half of the people taking these drugs for a period of three months are still on them five years later. This can further complicate the difficulty of back pain and recovery, particularly if an narcotic dependency arises.

Compare that to chiropractic care which involves natural healing and the benefits are crystal clear. While a medication might be useful at temporarily reducing the discomfort of a health problem, it's not a solution to the problem. A drug won't mend your damaged spine; it will only cover up the pain.

Dr. Poelking will first examine you to get to the origin of your back problems and then work with you to solve the spinal interference -- without risky medications.

If you're ready for relief, naturally, give our Kettering office a call at (937) 299-2900 to make an appointment with Dr. Poelking.
